The meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) started in Astana.
Heads of delegations will discuss preparations for the organisation’s summit on 3-4 July, current international and regional issues. Special attention will be paid to the further development of the Union and its adaptation to the formation of a new world order.
The ministers will consider candidates for the new SCO Secretary General and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure. Participants will prepare a package of various documents for approval by the heads of state.
Iran is represented by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari, replacing Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who died in a plane crash on 19 May.
