Andrej Danko, Deputy Speaker of the National Council (Parliament) of Slovakia and chairman of the Slovak People’s Party, which is part of the republic’s governing coalition, has admitted the possibility of his country leaving the European Union.

According to Report, citing TASS, this was reported by the news portal Tvnoviny.

‘They are turning us into mere slaves,’ the portal quoted the politician as saying. “If we have to live in a prison of nations, where it is normal to eat bugs (insect products – ed.). Or the Germans and French will do whatever they want, and the German chancellor will tell us: “Hey, if you don’t listen, we’ll take away your payments from European funds”. Then we’ll have to think about possibly leaving the EU.”

According to Danko, Germany’s prosperity is also based on cheaper Slovak labour.

‘Let the German chancellor once again threaten that if we don’t listen <…>. At that point, a discussion will begin about our continued membership in the EU. If they continue to consider us incapable and behave arrogantly towards us, then let them live without us,’ Danko said.
