Syrian and Israeli delegations have made progress in negotiations toward a bilateral security agreement. Syria’s transitional president Ahmed al-Sharaa stated that the deal would be based on the 1974 disengagement line on the Golan Heights. He also stressed the importance of economic integration in the Middle East. Earlier, on August 20, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani met in Paris with Israel’s Minister of Strategic Planning Ron Dermer, in talks mediated by the U.S. The meeting focused on reducing tensions in Syria’s Sweida province and enhancing stability in the country’s south.
