Tajik President Emomali Rahmon announced plans to deepen security cooperation with China, focusing on intelligence sharing, joint counterterrorism drills, combating drug and arms trafficking, and strengthening cyber and information security. He praised China’s leadership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), calling it a “new chapter” that has enhanced the bloc’s global standing.
Ahead of his visit to China for the SCO Tianjin Summit, Rahmon expressed high hopes for both bilateral ties and summit outcomes. Beyond security, he emphasized cooperation in digital technologies, green projects, investment, and infrastructure, highlighting how the Belt and Road Initiative has enabled Tajikistan to implement major projects in energy, industry, and transport.
Rahmon referred to President Xi Jinping as his “friend,” describing him as a visionary leader of global influence who combines China’s traditions with modern demands. He stressed that China’s role in the SCO has strengthened regional security and laid the foundation for deeper integration and development among member states.
