The European Parliament is expected to postpone voting on a bill implementing part of the EU’s transatlantic trade agreement after the US Supreme Court overturned President Donald Trump’s global tariffs.

“Complete tariff chaos on the part of the US administration… The terms of the Turnberry Agreement and the legal basis on which it was built have changed. Therefore, at our additional meeting tomorrow, I will propose that the European Parliament’s negotiating team suspend legislative work until we receive a proper legal assessment and clear commitments from the US,” he said.

The Turnberry Agreement is a temporary framework trade agreement concluded in July 2025 between the US administration and the European Commission. It provided for Washington to impose a 15% tariff on goods from the EU in exchange for the abolition of tariffs on American industrial goods. The aim of this agreement was to avoid a trade war.

It should be noted that on February 21, US President Donald Trump announced on social media that he was raising tariffs on imports from all countries from 10% to 15%.
