The IMF has noted progress in reforms and macroeconomic stability in Uzbekistan

On 1 April, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, held a meeting with the head of the IMF mission in the country, Yasser Abdi, Trend reports.

According to the report, the talks covered issues of economic development, attracting investment and improving the business environment. Representatives of the International Monetary Fund gave a positive assessment of the measures taken by Uzbekistan to ensure macroeconomic stability and effective management of external risks.

The IMF mission also reviewed the results of reforms, including trade liberalisation, simplification of business procedures and the development of export infrastructure.

It was noted that the country is improving its position in international rankings: in the 2026 Index of Economic Freedom, Uzbekistan achieved the region’s best scores for ‘Freedom of Investment’ – 70 points – and ‘Freedom of Trade’ – 80.6 points.

Following the meeting, the IMF confirmed its readiness to continue providing expert support for structural reforms within the framework of bilateral cooperation.
