Turkmen diplomat Rashid Meredov emphasised the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of bilateral relations.

Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan Sasaki Hiroshi in Ashgabat on 7 November. The Foreign Minister accepted the letter of credence of the foreign diplomat and congratulated him on his appointment. This was reported by the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The Minister emphasised the high dynamics of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan in the political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. Rashid Meredov noted that the basis of effective relations is regular political dialogue at the highest and top levels.

The Turkmen diplomat also noted the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in expanding interstate partnership. In this regard, Rashid Meredov noted the results of the visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the People’s Majlis of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Japan in September last year.

In addition, the diplomats discussed the current bilateral agenda, exchanged views on the current situation and prospects for further development of cooperation. The interlocutors also focused on fruitful interaction within the framework of international and regional organisations, including in the format of the “Central Asia+Japan” dialogue.

The politicians also identified priorities for further cooperation in the areas of energy, transport, communications, industry, agriculture, environmental protection, culture, science, education and learning the Japanese language in Turkmenistan.
