Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are continuing practical work to simplify travel between the two countries for their citizens, including the introduction of an e-visa system.

This was stated by Ravshanbek Alimov, Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Turkmenistan, during a briefing in Ashgabat, according to the Turkmen government’s press service.

According to the diplomat, the necessary legal framework was established following amendments to Turkmenistan’s legislation in 2026. The consular services of the two countries are currently coordinating the technical parameters of the system for submitting applications for e-visas.

“The relevant legal framework has already been established, and the competent consular authorities are now finalising the technical parameters of the electronic forms,” Mr Alimov noted.

The ambassador also emphasised that Uzbekistan is paying particular attention to the development of cross-border tourist routes in Central Asia. One of the key initiatives is the Khiva–Kunya-Urgench–Ashgabat–Mary–Bukhara tourist corridor, which is designed to link the historical and cultural sites of the two neighbouring states.
