On 20 July, the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, signed a decree authorising the state-owned concern ‘Turkmengaz’ to enter into a contract with the German company Vietz GmbH for the supply of specialised technical equipment. The decision was taken following a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, at which Deputy Prime Minister Guvanch Agajanov reported on the modernisation of the material and technical base of enterprises in the gas sector.
According to a government statement, the equipment to be supplied will be used at “Turkmengaz” production facilities as part of the modernisation of the gas industry. The official statement also emphasises that the cooperation with the German company is seen as the result of a consistent policy aimed at developing Turkmen-German business ties. The President of Turkmenistan noted that the main objective of the project is to increase natural gas production volumes by modernising the sector’s technical infrastructure, and instructed that the agreement be implemented in a timely manner.
This development forms part of the broader context of Turkmen-German relations, which are increasingly showing a trend towards expansion and deepening. In recent years, Turkmenistan’s cooperation with German business has gradually taken on a practical character, focusing primarily on the modernisation of key sectors of the economy.
