Uzbekistan and South Korea strengthen cooperation in transport

The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a delegation of the Ministry of Land Resources, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea (MOLIT), Trend reports.

According to the information, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the transport sector. Particular attention was paid to possible participation of South Korean companies in modernisation of transport infrastructure of Uzbekistan and financing of relevant projects.

The Korean delegation presented the ‘Master Plan for the Development of the Intellectual Transport System of Tashkent City’, which proposed measures to improve the work of the capital’s public transport.

One of the priority areas was the Smart Bus project, which will be implemented by the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK) in 2026-2029.

In addition, from 2027 to 2032, Tashkent plans to introduce Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), a system of dedicated bus lanes that will significantly increase the speed and comfort of travelling around the city.

According to MOLIT Deputy Director Gang In Suk, grant funding of $40 million is planned for these initiatives.
