Uzbekistan and the UN plan to expand their full-scale partnership

On September 23, during the 80th UN General Assembly session in New York, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation with the UN and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. Over 160 projects and programs are underway, with a new five-year cooperation program expected to be signed in October. Uzbekistan has initiated 13 UNGA resolutions and was elected to ECOSOC, the Human Rights Committee, and the Statistical Commission. Tomorrow, a high-level forum on combating childhood cancer will be held at UN headquarters, and preparations continue for the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand. Guterres praised Mirziyoyev’s initiatives on SDGs, the development of a “New Central Asia,” global digital and AI cooperation, youth policies, and enlightened Islam. Both sides agreed to deepen comprehensive partnerships and develop new programs and projects.
