The U.S. has imposed new restrictions on Iranian diplomats and their families in New York, which, according to Iranian official Esmail Baghaei, are aimed at undermining Iran’s diplomatic work at the UN. The rules severely limit the delegation’s ability to fulfill its duties and attend multilateral events outside designated “permitted zones.” Baghaei called the measures a violation of U.S. obligations under the UN Headquarters Agreement and an act of hostility toward the Iranian people. The restrictions include bans on shopping in luxury boutiques and wholesale stores.
Iran has accused the US of obstructing the work of UN diplomats.
