Serbia is close to a final resolution of the NIS issue.

According to Report’s Balkan bureau, Serbian leader Aleksandar Vučić made this statement in an interview with RTS.

He noted that, for the first time, he is optimistic about the successful conclusion of negotiations between Russia, Hungary and Serbia regarding NIS, and believes that the parties are close to a final agreement.

“I think that, for the first time, I can share some good news – I am optimistic about the outcome of the trilateral negotiations between the Russians, Hungarians and Serbs, and I believe that we will be able to bring this process to a close. I believe that the Americans, who are closely monitoring all of this, can also see that this issue is nearing a conclusion. I believe we are very close to a final resolution,” Vucic noted.

According to him, this agreement will further strengthen Serbia’s fiscal stability, its credit rating and its economic position as a whole:

“I believe we will be able to resolve this matter within the next month.”

It was previously reported that the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had extended the operating licence for the sanctioned Serbian oil company NIS until 31 July.
