US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed an important trade agreement at the G7 Summit held in Canada. The agreement implements bilateral regulations related to the automotive and aviation sectors.
“We signed it, and it’s done,” said President Trump, noting that the agreement was the result of lengthy negotiations. Prime Minister Starmer noted that the agreement creates a new basis for cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the areas of automotive tariffs and civil aviation. A statement from the White House announced that an executive order implementing the general provisions of the trade agreement announced on May 8 had been signed on June 17. According to the order, the US will apply an annual tariff quota of 100,000 vehicles for automobiles imported from the UK. Imports within this quota will be subject to a 10% tax, while imports exceeding the quota will remain subject to a 25% customs tariff. Additionally, the customs tariff the US will apply to automotive parts produced in the UK and used in British vehicles will be 10% instead of 25%.
