During his working visit to the US, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul plans to meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York.
According to Report, he announced this to journalists before departing for Washington.
‘For Germany, reliability as an international partner undoubtedly includes a commitment to international law and cooperation. That is why, after my talks in Washington, I will also meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York,’ Wadefuul said.
In response to US President Donald Trump’s statements on Greenland, the German Foreign Minister emphasised the shared responsibility for security within NATO. ‘Of course, there can always be different points of view, even among close partners. However, this should not cause us to lose sight of the bigger picture,’ the minister said.
“Where there are differences of opinion, we want to resolve these differences through dialogue in order to fulfil our shared responsibility for peace and security. I will discuss this with my American counterpart Marco Rubio in Washington with this conviction. Our responsibility includes, in particular, security in the North Atlantic, which not only bears the name of NATO, but is also of strategic importance for our common security,” the head of the Foreign Ministry noted.
