The 2nd Uzbekistan-Tajikistan Interregional Forum was held on March 24 in the Jizzakh region, viewed by the parties as a further step toward deepening economic cooperation and expanding regional-level interaction. The forum focused on developing trade and economic ties, launching new investment projects and strengthening industrial cooperation between the border regions of both countries.

Growing mutual trade makes this format especially relevant. As of end-2025, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan reached $912.3 million, up nearly 85% compared to 2020. Uzbekistan’s exports account for $683.1 million, or 74.9% of the total. Experts estimate that trade could grow by another 30-40% through substituting Tajikistan’s imports from third countries with Uzbek products, particularly in industry. The parties have set a long-term goal of reaching $2 billion in mutual trade.

As of February 1, 2026, there are 410 enterprises with Tajik capital participation operating in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek-Tajik Investment Company, established as an outcome of the first interregional forum with $50 million in authorized capital, serves as a financial platform for joint projects. A key agenda item at the forum was the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, including expansion of border crossing capacity and creation of logistics centers. Regional connectivity to international transport corridors linking Central Asia with Iran, Turkey and Europe was also discussed.

The 2nd Interregional Forum is viewed as a transition to a more practical phase of cooperation. Following the forum, specific projects in industry, logistics, energy and investment are expected to be identified, with implementation intended to accelerate economic integration between the two countries.
