British Prime Minister Keir Starmer may be forced to resign within a week.
According to Report, this was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources in the ruling Labour Party.
The reason for such talk was the scandal surrounding the appointment of Peter Mandelson, a friend of American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of pedophilia, as British ambassador to the US. This scandal has already led to the resignation of British Prime Minister Morgan Maxwini’s chief of staff, who stepped down on Sunday.
According to Bloomberg, a number of MPs from the ruling Labour Party were surprised that Starmer still retains his post, despite the fact that he was the one who approved Mandelson’s appointment as ambassador. The agency reported that some Downing Street staff are privately urging members of the government to persuade the prime minister to resign, or to resign themselves in order to provoke his departure. According to an adviser to one of the ministers, the likelihood of Starmer remaining in office for the next week is “50-50.”
