Bolivia and the United States (US) have decided to restore full diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level after a 17-year break. Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz Pereira and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau announced the decision following Paz’s inauguration. Paz described the move as part of a pragmatic shift in Bolivia’s foreign policy, stating they would re-establish relations with the US government and people under a vision of cooperation and mutual respect. Both governments confirmed that technical talks are underway to expand cooperation in areas such as education, public security, economic development, trade, and investment. The restoration of full representation is expected to mark a political reset between La Paz and Washington.
