On August 18 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Park Byeong-seug, the special envoy of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. Wang emphasized that under the new ROK government, the China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership should be elevated to a higher level, highlighting the importance of maintaining friendship and long-term stability. He recalled the 80th anniversaries of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the liberation of the Korean Peninsula, calling for joint efforts to safeguard the achievements of World War II and uphold international justice. Wang also urged both sides to protect the free trade system, oppose trade protectionism, and strengthen multilateralism. Park Byeong-seug reaffirmed South Korea’s adherence to the One-China principle and expressed willingness to expand high-level exchanges, foster cooperation in education and youth cultural exchanges, and put bilateral ties back on track. Park also delivered President Lee Jae-myung’s letter to President Xi Jinping through Wang.
