Chinese and US officials announced that they had reached a framework agreement on trade after two days of intense negotiations. Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang said in a statement after the talks that both sides would present the results to their leaders.

Li said in a statement following the talks, which lasted until late into the night in London, “The two sides have reached a principled agreement on an implementation framework based on the telephone conversation on June 5 and the consensus reached in Geneva.” Emphasizing that the talks took place in a “professional, rational, in-depth, and open” atmosphere, Li said they hoped this progress would stabilize China-US economic relations and contribute positively to the global economy. The talks were led by Chinese Vice Premier and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee He Lifeng, while Commerce Minister Wang Wentao also attended the first day’s sessions. On the US side, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer were present. US Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick said, “The world’s two largest economies have shaken hands and agreed on a framework,” adding that the agreement will be submitted to President Trump and President Xi for approval and then implemented. The talks were held within the framework of the China-US Economic and Trade Consultation Mechanism. Experts noted that these contacts demonstrated the two countries’ willingness to resolve their issues through equal dialogue and could contribute to global economic recovery.
