The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN), called on all parties to reaffirm their commitment to the founding mission of the UN and strengthen the role of the organization.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, at a press conference on Thursday, drew attention to UN Charter Day, noting that the signing of the UN Charter and the establishment of the UN 80 years ago demonstrated the international community’s determination to end wars and promote cooperation. Guo said, “The purposes and principles of the UN Charter have become a fundamental guide for the conduct of international relations and a vital foundation for the stability of the international order.” “On the 80th anniversary of the Charter, we must not only revive its spirit, but also carry it forward and give it new life,” he added. Recalling that China was the first country to sign the UN Charter, Guo emphasized that his country has always adhered to the norms governing international relations, fulfilled its obligations with diligence, and made positive contributions to humanity’s peace and development.
