The Chinese Embassy in Israel strongly condemned Knesset member Boaz Toporovsky (Yesh Atid) for once again visiting Taiwan and making “erroneous remarks” on the Taiwan issue. The embassy said his actions seriously violated the one-China principle, undermined the political foundation of China-Israel relations, and made him a “troublemaker” for bilateral ties. China stressed that Taiwan is an inalienable part of its territory, and calls for independence amount to splitting the country. The embassy criticized Toporovsky for addressing Taiwan’s regional leader Lai Ching-te as “President” and claiming to speak on behalf of the Israeli people. It reminded that Israel, in its communiqué on establishing diplomatic ties with China, recognized the one-China principle. The spokesperson added that Toporovsky has lost political credibility, is acting on behalf of outside interests, and warned that if he continues, he will “pay the price” for harming China’s core interests.
