The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has inspected the progress of construction of the integrated nuclear power station in the Jizzakh Region and the project for a modern nuclear town, which is to be built adjacent to the nuclear power station.
This was reported by the State Portal of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The nuclear power station project has been in the active construction phase since June this year. To date, the excavation of the foundation pit for the reactor building has been fully completed, with over 1 million cubic metres of soil removed. 916 cubic metres of concrete have already been poured into part of the foundation slab. Major earthworks have also been completed on the 100-hectare site of the construction and assembly base.
Currently, 450 workers and specialists, as well as over 100 units of specialised machinery, are working on the site.
The total cost of the project is $9.5 billion. It is planned to use around 3,000 types of products and equipment during construction.
The share of locally sourced products is currently estimated at 21 per cent, or $1.9 billion. Mirziyoyev noted that this is insufficient and instructed that the figure be raised to at least 30 per cent. Furthermore, 65 per cent of the construction and installation work must be carried out by national enterprises, and it is planned to employ 7,000 local workers and specialists for the project.
