Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on Friday that ‘dialogue’ is unacceptable if one party talks about the need for dialogue while continuing to stoke confrontation.

Lin made these remarks in response to questions about Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi’s comments on China at the US-Japan summit, during which Takaichi claimed Japan has consistently been open to dialogue with China.

Lin Jian emphasized that China has made clear its position on this issue more than once, stressing that true dialogue must be built on mutual respect and honoring commitments. He said that if Japan truly wants to improve relations with China, it must abide by the four political documents between the two countries, retract its erroneous remarks on Taiwan, and take concrete actions to uphold the political foundation of China-Japan relations.

The spokesperson also reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, that the Taiwan question is purely China’s internal affair, and that China is firmly resolved in defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
