The EU Council has decided to sign a comprehensive package of agreements with Switzerland, providing for the further development and strengthening of bilateral relations.
According to the European bureau of Report, this was announced by Cyprus’ Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna.
“Today’s decision by the Council is a natural step in strengthening our long-standing relations. The Cyprus Presidency has worked intensively to finalise these agreements, which will deepen and modernise the partnership between the EU and Switzerland. This fully reflects our commitment to building a stronger and more autonomous Union that remains open to the world,” she said.
The package of bilateral documents includes the renewal of four agreements granting Switzerland access to the EU internal market (air and land transport, free movement of persons and conformity assessment); an update to the agreement on trade in agricultural products; three new agreements in the areas of food safety, health and electricity; and a new agreement on Switzerland’s continued and fair financial contribution to the EU’s economic and social cohesion.
