Finnish President Alexander Stubb completed his first official visit to Kazakhstan on October 28-29, focusing on pragmatic cooperation with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev based on Finnish “green” technology and Kazakh resources. During the visit, 15 cooperation documents were signed.

A key agenda item was the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor/TMTM), linking it to the EU’s Global Gateway initiative, with both leaders agreeing to enhance cooperation between ports like Aktau and Helsinki.

In energy, Kazakhstan, the world’s largest uranium producer, signed an MOU with Finland on peaceful nuclear energy and waste management. Kazakhstan also aims to leverage its access to 21 rare-earth elements, critical to the EU, to attract Finnish technology and investment. Other agreements signed cover diverse sectors, including energy efficiency with Wärtsilä, construction technology with Peikko Group, sustainable tourism with Honkarakenne, and oil spill response with Lamor Corporation.
