Chinese President Xi Jinping told the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting on Saturday that Asia Pacific economies must enhance mutually beneficial cooperation for a sustainable future. He noted that while the world faces lackluster growth, climate change, and food security challenges, a new technological revolution provides opportunities.
Xi put forward a three-point proposal: First, to unleash digital and smart potential to drive innovation. In this regard, he urged the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that is “beneficial, safe and fair,” and offered Chinese support to bridge the APEC digital divide. Second, to commit to green and low-carbon development to build a sustainable paradigm. Third, to foster inclusive growth by “putting the people first” and fully implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to eliminate poverty.
