The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, Jeyhun Bayramov and Yermek Kosherbayev, discussed the situation in connection with the escalation in the Middle East region.
According to Trend on Monday, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed the situation in the region following the latest military escalation and growing tensions.
The ministers expressed deep concern over recent events and stressed that further aggravation of the situation poses a serious threat to regional security and stability.
The parties noted that strengthening cooperation between the consular departments of the two countries’ diplomatic missions in the region and coordinating actions to support citizens could be useful.
In addition, during the telephone conversation, an exchange of views was held on other issues of mutual interest.
It should be recalled that on 17 February, after the second round of nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran ended without progress, the US strengthened its presence near Iran by deploying more than 150 aircraft to bases in Europe and the Middle East.
On 26 February, the third round of talks between Iran and the US on Iran’s nuclear programme took place in Geneva. The meeting was seen as the last chance to resolve the situation diplomatically. No concrete agreements were reached: Tehran refused to suspend uranium enrichment, dismantle nuclear facilities, and impose indefinite restrictions on the development of its nuclear programme.
