IAEA and Kazakhstan discuss expanding cooperation in the nuclear sector

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy have discussed expanding cooperation in the nuclear sector.

A Kazakh delegation led by the Agency’s Deputy Chairman, Gumar Sergazin, visited the IAEA headquarters and held meetings with the Agency’s Deputy Directors General and the heads of relevant departments.

During the visit, the parties discussed cooperation in the development of nuclear energy, nuclear medicine, technical cooperation, as well as nuclear and radiation safety.

At a meeting with IAEA Deputy Director General for Nuclear Sciences and Applications Najat Mohhtar, issues were discussed regarding the development of nuclear medicine in Kazakhstan, the application of radiation technologies to ensure food security, and cooperation within the framework of the IAEA’s ‘Rays of Hope’ and ‘Atoms4Food’ initiatives.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan on the implementation of nuclear and radiation technologies to strengthen food security, enhance the sustainability of agriculture and advance scientific research.
