According to Report, this was reported by ANSA.
According to the report, Meloni arrived in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) this afternoon, 3 April. Over the next two days, the Italian Prime Minister will also visit the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
“This is the first visit by a Western leader to the region, which is a vital source of oil, since the start of the conflict in Iran. The Prime Minister’s unexpected mission is aimed, among other things, at strengthening Italy’s energy security. The Persian Gulf is a vital source of oil and gas for Italy and plays a key role in global energy prices,” the publication reports.
It is noted that Meloni has become the first leader of an EU, G20 and NATO country to visit the region since the conflict began.
Sources note that the aim of the mission is to strengthen relations with the Gulf states and “reaffirm Italy’s support in the face of Iranian attacks, whilst consolidating an increasingly robust strategic partnership”.
