The Japanese government intends to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan and regional partners within the framework of the Middle Corridor.
This was stated by Japanese Ambassador to Uzbekistan Kenji Hirata in an exclusive interview with Trend.
‘Given Uzbekistan’s geopolitical position, the development of regional connectivity is extremely important for the country’s development,’ he said.
According to the ambassador, cooperation in the transport sector is already yielding tangible results.
“The Japanese government has provided loan projects for the modernisation of airports in Bukhara, Urgench and Namangan. In addition, projects have been implemented to construct the Tashguzar-Kumkurgan railway line for freight transport and to improve local connectivity, to modernise the railway between Kash and Termez in order to increase transport efficiency, and to transfer equipment for road construction and maintenance,” K. Hirata emphasised.
The diplomat also noted the growing role of the private sector in bilateral cooperation.
‘I am pleased to note that Japanese companies are playing an active role in the construction of the new Tashkent airport,’ the ambassador said.
