Japan’s Foreign Ministry announced it lodged a strong protest with South Korea over suspected maritime research near disputed islets in the Sea of Japan, known as Takeshima in Japan and Dokdo in South Korea. Japan said a South Korean survey ship lowered a wire in what it claims as its territorial waters, calling the act unacceptable. The ministry stressed that the islets are an integral part of Japan under historical facts and international law. It also noted a similar incident occurred last year.
