Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Kazakhstan’s KazMunaiGaz (KMG) have successfully continued the transit of Kazakhstani oil through Azerbaijan, with the total volume reaching 4 million tonnes, Trend reports citing SOCAR.
The 427th batch of Kazakhstani oil departed from the port of Aktau on March 12 aboard the tanker President Heydar Aliyev and arrived at Azertrans’s Sangachal terminal the following day. Of the total volume, 3.8 million tonnes comes from the Tengiz field, with an additional 200,000 tonnes from the Kashagan field.
Oil delivered to the Sangachal terminal is further transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline to the Ceyhan terminal in Turkey and exported to global markets. The transit arrangements are governed by a Framework Agreement signed by SOCAR and KMG in November 2022. In March 2024, the parties signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation to increase annual volumes, and on January 15, 2025, an additional agreement was concluded on the transit of 240,000 tonnes of Kashagan oil annually alongside existing Tengiz shipments.
