Kazakhstan has allocated about $2.36 million to purchase equipment for monitoring the Caspian Sea and equip specialized laboratories, according to the government of Kazakhstan, cited by Report’s Kazakhstan bureau.
The funds were allocated from the state reserve to the Kazakh Research Institute of the Caspian Sea. The equipment will be used for research directly in the sea area, as well as for the operation of hydrobiological and hydrochemical laboratories.
In 2026, monitoring in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian is being conducted across 50 parameters, including meteorological, hydrological, hydrochemical and biological indicators, as well as the condition of bottom sediments. In coastal areas, monitoring covers 26 parameters.
The research program includes two marine expeditions covering 21 stations, as well as regular monitoring at 22 coastal sites.
At the same time, Kazakhstan, together with other Caspian littoral states, is discussing an Action Plan for adapting to changes in the Caspian Sea and preserving its ecosystem. The document is expected to provide for joint measures, the exchange of scientific data and coordination of research among countries in the region.
