Kazakhstan and Georgia have agreed to launch a system for the electronic exchange of permits for international road freight transport as part of efforts to improve coordination along the Middle Corridor.
This was stated in a press release from the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Joint Kazakhstan-Georgia Commission on International Road Transport, held in Astana.
According to the commission, testing of the e-Permit digital platform will begin on 22 July 2026. The system will enable hauliers from both countries to submit and verify transport permits electronically, replacing the current paper-based procedure.
The parties also discussed further expanding the quotas for freight transport permits. Once the electronic exchange system is fully operational, Kazakhstan and Georgia plan to move to an unlimited regime for issuing permits for bilateral road transport.
“In addition, a provisional quota of 20,500 permits for 2027 has been agreed, which is 6,000 more than in the previous period. The increase in the quota will create additional opportunities to meet the demand for international road transport and to develop trade and economic ties between Kazakhstan and Georgia,” the statement said.
