The Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the ‘QaJET’ national energy transition investment platform.
The document was signed on the sidelines of the Regional Environmental Summit (RES-2026) by Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhanov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Yerlan Nysanbayev and EBRD Managing Director for Central Asia and Mongolia Huseyin Ozhan.
The new ‘QaJET’ platform is designed to ensure more effective mobilisation of investment, coordination of government initiatives and the development of low-carbon projects in Kazakhstan’s energy sector.
According to the participants, the creation of this mechanism will be an important step in strengthening the partnership between Kazakhstan and the EBRD, as well as in advancing the country’s sustainable development goals and ‘green’ transition.
It should be noted that the day before, as part of the RES, Erlan Akkenzhenov held a meeting with Gianpiero Nacci, Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. It was reported that in recent years, agreements and memoranda worth approximately US$600 million have been signed with the Bank’s participation, including the mobilisation of concessional financing from international climate funds.
With the support of the EBRD, renewable energy projects totalling 788 MW and worth over US$1 billion have been implemented in Kazakhstan.
