Kazakhstan, together with Azerbaijan and Georgia, is working on a unified long-term tariff model for the Middle Corridor.

This was announced by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at a meeting in Brussels with Eduard Zigrist, Senior Vice-President of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), as part of his visit to Belgium, according to the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.

“Kassym-Jomart Tokayev briefed Eduard Zigrist on practical measures to strengthen the capacity of the Trans-Caspian international transport route. In particular, a unified long-term tariff model is being developed jointly with Azerbaijan and Georgia, and key infrastructure initiatives are being implemented, including the expansion of the cargo ship fleet in the Caspian Sea, dredging works in collaboration with Azerbaijan, and the modernisation of the port of Kuryk,” the Akorda statement reads.

During the meeting with MSC’s management, the prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of transport and logistics were discussed. Particular attention was paid to increasing the level of containerisation, which will contribute to a significant growth in cargo turnover.
