Following several months of systematic preparations, Turkmenistan and Georgia are approaching the point where political dialogue is set to give way to the practical implementation of joint projects.
The state visit by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to Tbilisi on 16 July will be a logical continuation of the series of contacts that the two sides have been building since the beginning of 2026. During this time, the agenda for bilateral relations has expanded significantly: alongside traditional political cooperation, increasing attention has been paid to transport, logistics, investment, finance and the development of trade links. Whereas previously the main focus was on discussing prospects, the emphasis is now on implementing specific agreements.
This was confirmed by a telephone conversation between the foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Georgia, which took place shortly before the visit. The foreign ministers discussed not only organisational matters relating to the forthcoming visit, but also the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation, as well as Georgia’s engagement with the countries of Central Asia. The parties separately emphasised the importance of maintaining a regular high-level dialogue, which in recent months has become one of the key components of Turkmen-Georgian relations.
