Kazakhstan is prioritising the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) as part of its efforts to increase the country’s transit potential, with freight traffic on the route planned to reach 5.2 million tonnes by 2026.
This was reported by the Kazakh bureau of Report, citing the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry, by 2026, the volume of cargo transportation by water transport across Kazakhstan is planned to increase to 11.4 million tonnes, compared to 9.5 million tonnes in 2025. At the same time, cargo traffic directly on the TITR will grow to 5.2 million tonnes.
“To ensure the growth of traffic in the ports of Kuryk and Aktau, projects are being implemented to deepen the seabed and modernise the berthing infrastructure, as well as to build new container terminals. At the same time, work is underway to expand the merchant fleet: by 2028, it is planned to increase its size to 32 vessels,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Transport emphasises that the development of the TITR is seen as a key element in strengthening Kazakhstan’s international transport links and enhancing the country’s role in the transit of goods between Asia and Europe.
