Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan discussed the development of the “Green Energy Corridor”

On August 14, 2025, Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Erlan Akkenjenov met with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Bakhtiyor Ibragimov. The meeting focused on the “Green Energy Corridor” project across the Caspian Sea with Azerbaijan, implemented through the Yaşıl Dəhliz Birliyi joint venture established on July 1, 2025. Discussions also covered the implementation of bilateral roadmaps, cooperation in the oil and gas sector, Kazakhstan’s gas transit via Uzbekistan (921.7 million m³ in the first seven months of 2025), and increasing Russian gas transit to Uzbekistan to 11 billion m³ by 2026. Kazakhstan also expressed readiness to supply oil to Uzbekistan. Regionally, the parties reviewed the Kambarata-1 HPP project, where Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan are strategic partners. The strategic importance of energy cooperation for long-term stability in Central Asia was emphasized.
