During Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov’s visit to China, an additional agreement was signed on the parallel reconstruction of two hydro units at the Uch-Kurgan Hydropower Plant. The deal followed talks between Kyrgyz Energy Minister Talaybek Ibraev and the president of China National Electric Engineering Co., LTD, Yang Wenhuang, focusing on energy cooperation and modernization projects. According to the agreement, in 2026 both hydro units will be replaced simultaneously — a first for Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector — which will boost the plant’s capacity by 18 MW. The general contractor for the project is designated as CNEEC, highlighting the growing Kyrgyz-Chinese cooperation in the field of energy development.
