The Lithuanian Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs have sent a joint letter to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte requesting the deployment of additional anti-drone systems in the country.

This was announced by the Republic’s Minister of Defence Dovile Šakalienė, as reported by Report with reference to TASS.

‘We are requesting the deployment of additional anti-drone systems, even if they are experimental. We are ready to test them in changing circumstances,’ she said.

The request was made in the wake of incidents that occurred in July: two drones flying from Belarus crossed the Lithuanian border. One of them, a Russian-made Gerbera, did not carry any weapons. The second drone was equipped with 2 kg of explosives. Both aircraft fell on Lithuanian territory without incident.
