Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev held a closed-door meeting and took part in the second meeting of the Supreme Intergovernmental Council. These events took place on July 2 as part of the Central Asian republic’s head’s visit to Baku, according to his press service.

The parties discussed issues of strengthening friendship, strategic partnership, and alliance. The Uzbek leader noted that his visit to Azerbaijan and the council meeting are taking place in the year of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states.

“Never in history have our relations been at such a high level as they are today,” Mirziyoyev emphasized.

The leaders of the countries noted the dynamic development of cooperation in many areas. In particular, it was mentioned that the first Interparliamentary Forum was held yesterday in Khiva. Prior to that, a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Forum of Regions were held in Baku.

Trade turnover between the republics has grown by 25%. The portfolio of investment projects has reached $4 billion. Currently, there are about 300 joint ventures in operation.
