Moldova and Ukraine have signed an agreement on military-technical cooperation, providing for the exchange of expertise and the use of Ukrainian technological solutions to protect airspace from drones.

According to Report, citing the Moldovan government’s press service, the country’s Prime Minister Vasile Tofan announced this following a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Serhiy Koretskyi in Kyiv.

The document was signed by Moldova’s Defence Minister Anatolie Nosaty and Ukraine’s Defence Minister Yevhen Khmara.

According to Tofan, the agreement is of particular significance in the context of threats to Moldova’s security. Since the start of the war, the country’s airspace has been violated more than 100 times, and drones and shell fragments have fallen on its territory.

“Moldova is and will remain a peaceful and neutral state. But neutrality does not mean defencelessness. It is our duty to protect peace and the security of our citizens,” the Prime Minister stated.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed the development of transport corridors for the carriage of Ukrainian goods, the modernisation of border crossing points, the expansion of cooperation in the energy sector and the strengthening of regional security.

In addition, the heads of government reaffirmed their intention to continue cooperating on the process of accession to the European Union.
