Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva reaffirmed that China-Brazil relations are at their best in history, aiming to set an example of unity and self-reliance for the Global South. Xi expressed China’s support for Brazil’s defense of national sovereignty and called for joint opposition to unilateralism and protectionism. Lula stressed deepening strategic alignment, enhancing coordination in BRICS and other multilateral forums, and resisting “unilateral bullying” practices. The two leaders also discussed US tariffs of up to 50% on Brazilian goods, with Brazil seeking policy coordination with China as a response. They agreed to cooperate on global issues such as the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Belém and the political resolution of the Ukraine crisis. China’s investments in Brazil have been rising, and 183 new Brazilian coffee companies were recently approved to export to the Chinese market.
