The European Commission is providing France with a €15 billion loan for military purposes under the SAFE programme.

According to Report, this was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference ahead of the G7 summit in Evian.

“On 17 June, we will sign a €15 billion loan agreement with France. Thanks to its powerful defence industry, France is a key country for European security. SAFE will help countries strengthen their military capabilities, support their defence industrial capacity and their ability to assist Ukraine,” said the Commission President.

It should be noted that the total volume of military lending under the SAFE programme amounts to €150 billion. According to von der Leyen, the European Commission has already allocated €78 billion of the total amount among EU countries.
