On 22 January, representatives of 19 countries signed the Charter of the Peace Council, created as part of the peace settlement in the Gaza Strip, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Washington said that other states had also joined the organisation. The Peace Council was created in accordance with an agreement between Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas to govern Gaza, but it is expected that it will also be involved in preventing and resolving conflicts in other regions.
