The US has no plans to leave NATO, with thousands of American soldiers involved in the alliance’s missions.
According to Report, this was stated by US Secretary of State and Assistant to the President for National Security Marco Rubio at a joint press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico following their meeting in Bratislava.
‘We are not leaving NATO. We may redeploy a couple of thousand soldiers from one country to another, but that has always been the case,’ he said in response to a question about the status of the US in NATO amid reports of a reduction in the number of US Armed Forces units deployed in Europe.
Rubio added that the US would view the growth of European countries’ influence in the alliance as a positive development and wants to see Europe as a partner, not a subordinate. ‘We are not asking Europe to be a vassal of the United States. We want to be partners, to work with Europe,’ the US Secretary of State said.
