The recent visit of Dunya Gozel Gulmanova, Speaker of the Turkmenistan Parliament, to Georgia was a significant event in diplomatic relations between the two countries. During her visit on 24 February, she met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and President Mikheil Kavelashvili. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in the fields of transport, energy and communications, both bilaterally and within international organisations.
A key outcome was the signing of a cooperation agreement between the parliaments of the two countries. The document, signed with Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, provides for the exchange of experience, the creation of joint committees and coordination on regional issues. Kobakhidze noted the potential for strategic partnership, and Gulmanova confirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness for further dialogue. This visit continues a series of contacts, including ministerial talks in 2025 on transport corridors. It should be noted that Turkmenistan has traditionally focused on domestic affairs, while Georgia has focused on integration with the EU.
