The record-setting 41-day U.S. government shutdown is on a path to end after the Senate passed a temporary funding measure supported by eight moderate Democrats. The measure, which passed on Monday, November 11, 2025, by a 60-40 vote, funds most of the government through January 30 and some agencies through September 30. The spending package, which President Donald Trump has already endorsed, is expected to be considered by the House of Representatives on Wednesday. The agreement was made possible by centrist Democrats dropping their demand to renew expiring Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) subsidies, frustrating progressives within the party. This resolution is viewed as a crucial step toward mitigating the negative global economic impact of the prolonged shutdown, despite the domestic political cost to the Democratic party.
